Advice for a family of 5 in Oslo?

Hi all, my name is Tom, I currently live in the states (near Seattle), and I'm thinking about taking a job transfer to Oslo, Norway for a few years. Me, my wife, and 3 kids.

I understand it's very expensive... rent, dining, groceries, etc. Is it prohibitely expensive or is it doable if you make lifestyle changes (like avoid eating out and live outside city)?

If we move there, we'd like to be able to do some travel in Norway, Sweden, and Europe, but not if we can't afford it.

Sorry if this is a naive question but I only recently started to realize the cost of living differences.

Thanks all!
Tom

If you have a job ready for you.........and pay is above 25000nok
you can relocate to norway......and about kids......education is free in Norway.. even though bit expensive...My advice see for 2 months in  norway and then think about family relocating..
And first thing you should know norwegian for anything

Thanks tonorway! This is the kind of information that's hard to obtain elsewhere. I hope to visit again in the fall and get a better feel for the place.
