Sale Tax in Thailand?

Hi all,

I went to Thailand a couple of months ago and really loved all that the country had to offer, especially the shoppings.  I was just wondering if Thailand has sale tax, like they do in the US?

I was only there for a few days and my friends took care of almost everything, so I have no clue.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Howie

Thailand has a VAT (value added tax) of seven percent but it is usually included in the cost of the product so you never really know the amount.  The only place I have see it are are some western restaurants and hotels where it is itemized on the bill.

Straydog,

Thanks for the clarification.  So, that means if I walk into a Thai mall, all prices are as marked, right?

In general the price includes the VAT but when in doubt I always ask.
