I live in Leeds at the moment and it's great! It has a fantastic nightlife (make sure you go to the Hifi Club -off Boar Lane - or the Wardrode - near the Playhouse)
The centre of Leeds is pretty small but it's like a mini London - it has everything you need but the good thing is you don't have to walk far to get where you need to be! (including Harvey Nichols, Vivienne Westwood and other exclusive designer stores)
It has some great places to visit (The Royal Armouries, The Henry Moore Gallery) and further out is of course the beautiful Yorkshire Dales too! (not forgetting the nearby historical town of York - make sure you visit the Dungeons there! - I found a great discount for them at discountbritain.net)
Leeds has a huge student culture in the Headingly/Hyde Park area and there are also some fantastic gig & theatre venues - Leeds Met, West Yorkshire Playhouse and the Grand Theatre.
