My family of three are seriously contimplating moving to Ecuador and we've liked what we've read so far about Loja and the surrounding area. We plan on taking a visit down there and also the Manta & Salinas areas next year. Our son is 16 and of course he is as we are apprihensive for him. We've trying to find out more info on Universities for him and have noticed Loja has a couple. We're Texas and Army vets that like warm weather and small town living, but need ammenities near by (Universities, hospitals, etc...).  Loja anybody????
Thanks Matt

Hi Matt,

Yes, Loja has a couple of Universities. One public and one private, both decent. I assume that if your son is thinking of enrolling in an university here that he is fluent in Spanish. The ability to communicate in the local language is a big plus; I am still working on it myself.

I live here in Loja and enjoy the mild, cooler clinate. There are a few popular smaller cities nearby, Malacatas and Vilcabamba, that are at a lower elevation and usually are a bit warmer.

Have fun with your search. Wherever you decide on, visit the location several times then rent for awhile before you decide to buy. That will give you the time to decide if you and your family really enjoy living there. Feel free to ask any other questions that you may have.

Regards,

Steve

Thanks Steve, he takes Spanish in school and we all are going to hit it hard soon. I like what I've read about Loja and of Catamayo (near the airport)...I think it's a little warmer too.?.? Yes we plan on renting first, hopefully after alot of online research and a whirlwind visit of Ecuador we can figure out where the right place is for us. Thanks, Matt
