Hi Stephen

There is a rather large expat community on the island which is concentrated in Los Cristianos and Las Americas although it is decreasing, owing to the present economic climate.
My advise is to rent as prices still have to come down a lot more and rental prices just outside the tourist traps are becoming very reasonable.

Thanks for your advice.  I'm actually going to Los Cristianos on Sunday to have a look at a few properties for long term rental.

good luck with the renting search, i just returned from ADeje a week ago. i joined this site hoping to meet expats who have had some experience with renting, jobs and schools out there.

we r brushing up on our spanish already and have reserched jobs and aprtments to rent. would be great to know how you get on with the viewings, some of them looked perfect for us and slightly cheaper than i pay here which is a bonus!

well the main british area is all ex pats ... why dont you check out ryanairs
web site and book yourself a weeks holiday ....
plus vat is 7%
petrol is 90c a  litre

Just to say I'm about to rent an apartment in Los Cristianos (Los Angeles complex) for a trial 6 months.  A bargain at just 450 euros a month! It will be a holiday home - though my visits could get longer and more frequent! Good luck finding what you want.
