Anyone out there interested in helping to fight the endless targetting and conning of people who are trying to make a new life in Ghana?

My name is Yvonne.  In 1998,I fell for the incredible charms of a young man half my age.  He was riddiculously charming, persuasive and determined. I was incredibly taken in by what appeared at the time a very powerful connection between us.  Strangely we even look alike.  Turn out to be a superscam, marriage, money, property.  Now he actually believes that because he supervised the building of a property, not the property even that I wanted, he owns the place.  His name is not on the land title, thank god, but that does not seem to stop him trying to bribe just about everyone in Ghana to change land documents and business documents.  I am having to take on a very expensive lawyer, but see no other way of security my property, giving that I spend very little time there each year.  Any suggestions would be welcomed.  Kind thanks.  Yvonne

Hi Yvonne,

I would be interested in giving advice to anyone who is considering coming to Ghana. A lot of people have been scammed in different ways. You did the right thing by not allowing his name to be put on the land title but unfortunately there is no guarantee that he won't find an unsuspecting person to buy the property from him even though he has no right to sell it! A lot of people don't do due diligence when they buy property and hand over money without doing a proper search. I hope you can secure your property. Perhaps the only way is to put it in the hands of an agent who will be responsible for letting it out etc.
