Cycling??

With our move getting closer, it's time to think seriously about what items to bring and which to ditch... From our visits it seems that traffic in the north of the island is a nightmare. Would it be worth bringing our bikes? Are there any interesting places to cycle on the island? Dare I ask, cycle paths?

There are no such cycling path in Mauritius, you must use the same road as other vehicles, Mauritius is a good place for cycling. You may bring your bikes.

hi mishkj!

cycling is really popular in Mauritius, specially as a sporting event. My brother cycles every year for his company, along with hundreds of other people, including his colleagues. That being said, they have regular practice sessions through out the year and they cycle through out the island.

Cycling in Mauritius, be it along the coast, or inland, is an interesting and beautiful experience as you get to see many different sights that you would not usually see if travelling by car.

Therefore, I would highly recommend you bring your bikes :)

Unfortunately, there aren't any cycle paths here in Mauritius. Might take some time for such a development to arise BUT, always make sure you're wearing your cycling gear and bike lights are in working order (in the event you'll be cycling in the evenings too) and you'll be just fine :)

For sure bring your bikes it's very nice to have a bicycle here you just have to be aware of the ferrari buses passing by ! But out in the country it's lush .

Sorry for the thread hijack but does anyone know where is the best place to buy a bike?  I am only really looking for a normal mountain bike, mostly for road use.  I have tried Courts, Kalachand, etc. but they only tend to have a few bikes in.  I have also tried 'Fit for Life' in Tamarin/Bambous but they are a bit more expensive than we want to spend.

TIA

J.

hi Jaden :)

my brother cycles for his company. i could ask him where he got his bike from. but i remember seeing a cyclist specialist store in Curepipe, here's the link: le-bike.com/sommaire.php3?Rub=Velo.php3#vtt

phone number is +230 670 29 54

maybe you could give them a call and ask what sort of bikes they have and price range :)
