Hi all

Firstly, I would like to apologise for my rudeness in not introducing myself properly("slap on wrist")

My name is Mike, well, Name is not to exciting I guess!!

I am due to arrive in Jeddah from UK in about a weeks time, for a 3 year contract with a well established Architectural Company!! "WOW you might say"!!! yes, its exciting I supose.

"Bare with me please, not use to writing in forums" :):) actually never written in one before... anyway, lets crack on:

My career has kept me quite busy travelling to many destinations across the globe, meeting many different people and cultures (all exciting) "so why should this be different you might say"
well, i guess its not really.

Anyway, just recently spent a great 2 years in  Dubai, (now that was really cool!!) spent 5 years in Cyprus, 2 years in Greece and 2 years in US not to mention 6 months in portugal, 1 year in Italy (that was also really cool!!) and a few other places but don't want to bore you, well, now its Saudi :) hooray!!

Anyway lets not get carried away with excitement just yet, after all i haven't even arrived :)

Moving swiftly on;

I enjoy all water sports, especially scuba diving and swimming, ("I hear Jeddah is great for that") spent most of my free time doing just that... being on the beach or on a yacht sailing and diving ("having a 24/7 tan is part of the fun")

Also enjoy racing fast cars, when i can, ("Dubai was great for that")well, thats enough about me....

So, now you know a little bit more about me than you did yesterday, hope i didnt bore you too much :)

Look forward to meeting some of you, when i eventually find a good compound and a place to crash etc....

Chow fo now!!

Hi Mike,
great intro, welcome to the forum and please let us know how you find it once you get there, I'm in the process of applying for jobs so still researching and all info is welcomed.

So what's the best country you worked in so far and why?

MikaTect

Hi

Thanks for the reply, well, lets see: I guess Dubai was!! but Cyprus was good too, as i am half greek anyway and been to cyprus and greece untold times, it wasn't as exciting, but nevertheless was fun... ("the many islands of Greece was a Great place to sail though")

what role are you looking for? and do you have any preferences about which country?

Btwn-Fear-N-Hope

I recently graduated from uni and completed a tefl course so I'm looking to teach English... Saudi is my first choice for the pay and because as a muslim I've never made hajj...

I'm impressed by the number of countries you been to, breaking the record for us Brits aint you! lol

Lol!!  Thank you!

It's a great job being an Architect, you get to work on many different projects and as i specialise in hospitals, i get to go all over the world ("actually where the money takes me").

Well being a teacher was my second career choice, not sure why it didn't work out though to be honest. oh, well, an Architects life is not all bad i supose :)

Good luck! hope you find a teaching post, I hear there is a lot of call for it in Saudi to be honest....

Thank you! yes there are loads of posts but the trick is finding a contract I'm happy with. hopefully will be soon.

great to hear you love your job, if I was qualified in both I'd take the architect too. lol

best wishes with Saudi life! and do keep me informed on how you find it. doubt culture  shock would be as bad on you as some others, but then again Dubai is very very westernised compared to  conservative Saudi.
