Immigration advice needed regarding 457 visa and relationship breakdow

Hi,

I am on a sponsored Australian business long stay subclass 457 visa and my boyfriend has come in as my defacto/secondary applicant.

We are going through some relationship difficulties and I want to know where he stands if we break up. Am I obliged to tell my employer? His visa says nothing about defacto or me or relationship status. The only condition is regarding health insurance. Therefore does this mean he has been given his own visa and can stay as long as I am here even if we are not together? Or does he have to go home?

Appreciate any insight/advice anyone can provide

Many Thanks
Heidi

Hi Heidi,

You could call 131 881-- that is the national phone number for the Australian Department of Immigration.  Tell them about your class of visa and the situation of both applicants, and they will tell you what will happen in that situation so you will know for sure. You don't have to give them your names.

I hope this helps.
