Organize your move to Panama

Hi all,

we invite you to share your experience about moving to Panama.

Here is a list of questions which might help the ones preparing their move to Panama:

What would you bring and what would you leave behind?

Is it a good idea to bring furniture or domestic appliances?

Any foodstuffs that are banned in Panama?

Is it better to bring a car or to buy one once settled in Panama?

Any advice for the ones who are moving to Panama?

Thank you in advance for your participation :)

No, you do not want to bring your car/truck to Panama.  Panama does not import vehicles built to "American Standards", (whatever that means).  Therefore, the mechanics will not be able to find parts for your vehicle.  Sell your vehicle before you make the move and buy one here.  We bought a used one from the big Toyota dealership in Panama City.  We got a one year warrenty and they did all the paperwork including finding us insurance.  You might pay a little more, but these things were important to us.  There are plenty of 4X4's available here.  We bought the Rav4 as it seemed to get better gas mileage.
