Hello all! I am a working professional with more than 30+ years of experience, living in India. I have recently started communicating for a COO position in Oman, and am here seeking some advice for salary aspects. The company conveyed their package consisting of a basic monthly salary (that I have to quote) along with their perks of fully furnished house, car with fuel, medical and life insurance, and annual trip to home country with family. Nevertheless, since I have no idea on what kind of salaries do such position in Oman receive, I do not know what to quote. Hoping to find help here. Thanking all of you in advance!

Sir,

Looking towards the offer, title and your experience my suggestions are :

1. For COO role salary should vary anything between 4500 to 6000 Omani Riyals since they are providing you fully furnished accommodation and vehicle.

should you require further information, do not hesitate to drop a line

thanks and regards,

Dear Uday,

Thank you for your response. I have few points that I'd appreciate if you could further help with:

1. The salary you mention, 4500-6000 Omani Riyals, do you count bonus in it or is that separate? The package offered to me is a negotiable salary (which they said 3000 OMR negotiable- which I am her for, seeking help on a good number to quote), plus 3 months bonus, and the perks I mentioned previously. I do not have any friends or family in that part of the world, hence no clue what to quote above the 3000 OMR negotiable.

2. How much do you think would be the cost of living for a vegetarian, teetotaler couple?

3. How are the medical/specialists facilities there?

4. Is it a safe place for women?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My answer: If they have indicated 3000 OR means it is the salary which is mid point of that grade. You may still have 5 to 7% more bargaining left. further more it will have annual bonus and other perks. You may now count it.

2. How much do you think would be the cost of living for a vegetarian, teetotaler couple?
My answer: living and other expenses on an average could be lesser than 500 and that too depending on your living habits.

3. How are the medical/specialists facilities there?
My answer: good medical facilities are available normally covered under company medical program

4. Is it a safe place for women? it is rates high on safety for women.

My answer: Normally all the GCC countries see women as protected species. They work and they drive vehicles and they go alone for shopping and they alone can travel. No restrictions. Except respect islamic conservative rules and respect local culture.

Its a good place where you get balance between work, life, leisure and no tax.

Its comparatively safer than Saudi and you would enjoy your time there.
