Berziers July-August heat

Post new topic

orcuttnyc

Hello,

My wife and I are looking into to retiring from New York to Berziers.

We will visit a few days late April, to see if we like the area.

I've been doing my research into housing, ect,

One of our hesitations, is the high temperatures around July-August.

I counted 19 days over 90f. The rest of the year looks mild.

Climate change is heating up everywhere.

Is Beziers nice enough to live, that you put up with the several weeks of heat?

Do you go away when the heat comes?

I've noticed that in Beziers, there are a lot of swimming pools ;)

Thanks,

Bill

If heat, is a concern then the South of France isn't going to be the place for you. 90F is quite mild, where I live in Austria (Vienna) that's quite normal for Summer. We often go over 100F! You're right about climate change because our summers are getting hotter and our winters are getting milder.

Same where I live in upstate New York. This summer we had three less 90plus days than Beziers.

If and when we move to Beziers, maybe mid July-mid August would be good for road tripping through the mountains. The rest of the years temps look very mild.

We'll be looking for a small house in Beziers. I'll make sure to find an insulated, double paned, heat pump air conned one, with a small pool.

Here in America, we have a crazy guy coming into power, who thinks climate change is a hoax.

Am I correct in reading that you’re considering moving to what is essentially the Mediterranean and then complaining about the heat? Then calling Trump crazy.??

🤣🤣🤣

Hi Bill

so that we all understand the thrust of your post

You’re considering moving to the south of France and then worrying about the heat. You then go on to call Donald Trump crazy?

Weird in the extreme

@Wholehogmog

Nope. Wrong conclusion. Kinda like  trumps cultists, saying they like their Affordable Care Act, but are ok with trump getting rid of Obamacare wink.png.

@orcuttnyc  I've lived in a village about 25 minutes from Beziers for 11 years.  Summers in this region are hot and as someone else wrote, winters are mild and, it seems, getting milder.  I found it difficult at first and tried different ways to escape July and August heat including making my annual trip back to the States during those months and renting a place in Brittany for a couple of months.  Then two years ago, I gave in and bought a small air conditioning unit. It's made a huge difference.

Nights are cooler--like California where I used to live--and certain activities are geared to that, night markets, for instance, during July and August.  And the beaches are close--albeit crowded in the summer.

All in all, it's not impossible.  And Beziers has improved dramatically in the last few years--thanks in large part to the mayor, Menard, despite his questionable politics.  Beautiful holiday fete and market, more and more good restaurants, pleasant squares and parks etc.  And it's not filled with tourists.

Thank you.

I compared monthly temps in Beziers to where we are located in Beacon, NY and they are similar.
