Has anyone been asked by ScotiaBank to provide their US tax statements to the bank? We've gone there a few times and they give us a hard time about needing this. I was born in DR, but am a US citizen and live there now, but obviously have an account with ScotiBank DR. Just want to know why the harassing about my taxes.

Scotiabank wanted a copy of my income taxes filed in the US when I opened my account with them 3 years ago. They've not ever asked me again for it. But this past month I've had a horrible experience with them, I discovered they had service charged me 400 pesos per month for 5 months because I had not kept my pesos balance above the minimum 20,000 pesos every day...but they had never informed me that 5 months earlier they increased the minimum balance from 15,000 to 20,000. Since they did not notify me I had been religiously keeping my balance above 15,000 over the 5 months. Now after filing a complaint and request to refund me my 2,000 pesos of fees they've refused to do so! They won't supply proof of any notification to me. Also my "Advisor Client" assigned to answer any question takes 7 months to reply to a question or never replied to me. This is a BAD bank, moving my accounts ASAP

Yes, that bank requires it here in the DR if you are an American citizen.

Bank Popular and BHD I have found are good banks over the last 18 years for me.

I bank with Scotiabank and have an American Express Gold Credit Card with them. They never asked me for my US income tax return, but they did ask for my SSN which is required for all Americans. The U.S. wants to keep an eye on us.

Scotiabank was HORRIBLE!!!! The worst bank I've ever seen. Can't tell you enough to stay away from them if you can. We had a really bad experience when applying for our mortgage. We understand banks are way slower in DR compare to US, but OMG 6 months plus, heck no! Yes they asked us for US Tax, which we had no problem with it ( and I am Dominican US Citizen and my husband is North American). Besides all the documents the ask more than once, we dont care if its one time to apply, but man this bank is sooooo disorganized, they lose documents and ask for it more than 4-5 times.

Communication is horrible, they are sneaky too, try to hide things and never lose on any fight! STAY AWAY ASAP!!!

We got our mortgage and bank acc with Popular, process didnt last 2 weeks, and everything was super smooth. Super professional. Hope this help!
