Hello, Nice to meet you. I am also from Southern California.  I did not aplply to my residency yet but what you are asking is really a concern to me too.

Best wishes,

Anna

This is too general as there are fees and taxes depending on the contents.  It also depends on the vehicle. You need to speak with a customs broker on this.

We brought in a 40' container with our car and household belongings in 2020, but it was shipped from Miami. I'm also certain the prices, like everything else in the world, have increased since we shipped.

As Planner said, there are a lot of variables that determine the import duty for the vehicle. I definitely recommend importing both vehicles and household items with residency! You can get a full exoneration of import taxes on your household items if brought in within 6 months of obtaining residency, and a partial exoneration on your vehicle.

@planner

Even if I got the residency?   Please kindly advise.  Thank you

@ddmcghee

Did you have to pay IBIS?  Please kindly advise.  Thank you

Even with residency there are still fees and some taxes on the vehicle. Nothing here is straight forward

Im in the process of moving to the DR and what the “planner” says about nothing being straightforward is so true.  We applied for residency and we’re going to ship a 20’ container and a car over.  The container was to be 14k with the residency exception.  The car….what a nightmare. I contacted 3 different brokers and got prices from 10k-58k just in duty and taxes. The car is only worth 40k in The USA.  Decided to forget all the drama and just purchase new household and car over in the DR.  Final thought…..you live in Southern California….you know how it is in Mexico when it comes to the famous sayings there “ It’s a process”, I’m not talking about anyone else, I’m talking about you”, “Youre in Mexico, this is how we do it”   Be polite, patient and tolerance goes a long way.

Wow! That’s a lot more than we paid! We had full exoneration on our household items and only paid a portion on our car.

is that the cost of door to door shipping or just what you are being told the import fees will be?

Bugbudy

14k for door to door delivery of a 20’ container including fees if any. The car is what concerns us. Never got a straight answer

planner

And you wont get a straight answer unfortunately
