Hello,

I am applying for the new Job research visa to Germany (Chancenkarte). I want to fill out the VIDEX form but I have a couple of questions concerning it:

1- In the picture below, I could not make the right selection concerning the purpose of the stay. should I select "Employment"? or "Other" and then write job research?

2-  In the picture below, The selection here depends on the previous selection, If I select "Employment" Then the reference should be "Educational establishment/company/organisation" as the assistance in the form said. But in my case there is no Company. Any help please?

There is no "picture below" and it is unclear, from your post, what you want.

If you come to Germany for work, then select "Employment", if not, then select something else.

The "company" is your employer, of course, and thus is only applicable if you come for work.

No picture attached. I'm putting a link  to a site showing the form in question. When the link opens it will automatically be in the German version but one can choose the language at the top for the English version - or 11 others including Arabic which would seem to be the OP native language since their profil shows Syrian.

But the site also gives a list of countries to choose from where they can apply from. Syria is not listed.  Due to the strained political situation with the regime, the German embassy is closed. I would assume a Syrian could still apply from another country if they now have residency there. But it might be difficult if not impossible for authorities to check and verify their application. Applying directly from Syria deosn't even seem to be possible.

First of all you are mixing up the words "search" and "research"! Look similar not the same. A scientist does research what you want to do is "search" for a job so of course you need to put in employment. Update: According to Beppi, he thinks the catagory should be other and then one puts in job search. He might be right although the end purpose is to work the initial visa is to look for work. I think one would have to ask a consular worker to be absolutely sure.

Then one is given a choice of showing references of educational establishments - and/or- companies -and/or organizations. This is where one can mention their degrees and where they got them. If one has  no previous employment and thus a company to mention then one leaves it out. But of course having no work history lowers one's chance of acceptance. Involvement in organizations even if it was not considered employment can be relevent and here is where one lists it.

Something else to add. A Chancenkarte or "opportunity card" is the replacement for the formerly  used job seeker visa. The criticisms I had of the old system remain. The kinds of jobs a foreinger might find in Germany, especially if they don't speak good German  are usually limited to a few fields like in IT or certain types of enigneering. To come on a job search is a time and money consuming strategy. One is just as likely if not more so going to find such jobs online without all of the cost and hassle. If one really looks at the internationally known job websites and doesn't find good opportunities, then it is not likely to be much better coming in person.

And if one does they should extensively research the possible employers and line up interviews in advance. If unprepared, one will spend countless time and money and get nothing. This is one reason they make it very hard to get such a permission, not to dicourage foreign workers but to see that only the ones with some kind of a realistic chance come. Not good if many qualified and desperate workers waste months or up to a year on a futile search. One should try to get as many inverviews lined up in a short period of time.

Honestly, if one has not found something in 6 months or so then it is likley hopeless and not worth wasting more months.  I think it was maybe a mistake that the opportunity card is given for up to 12 months as the job seeker visa was limited to 6. Are those extra 6 months really and added opportunity or just an additional waste.

@beppi

Thank you so much.

I am going to look for a job. Can it be considered "Employment"?

beppi

@Mohammad Albarazi Then you are coming for job search, not employment. You need a job search visa. Once you find a job, it must be changed to work visa.

But I must warn you: It is very difficult to find jobs without speaking German. So, come only if you accept to return home empty-handed!

@beppi

I do speak German. I have already got a B1 level certificate.

That is a good start although not necessarily high enough for many professional jobs. I'm more wondering about the situation about a Syrian applying since the German embassy there is closed. Are you residing elsewhere now? If so what is your situation. This might be interesting for others in a similar situation.

beppi

@TominStuttgart He is posting from a Turkish IP address, so is most likely residing there, like several million other Syrians who fled from the war and toxic government.

Maybe. None of my business per se but it helps others to know how such things work, so such things are best mentioned unless they are say in fear of Syrian security forces as to ther whereabouts.
