Globe at home

Post new topic

FindlayMacD

After a few interruptions of our PLDT service I decide to purchase a Globe at Home router just for an internet backup for when our PLDT service was unavailable....... big, big mistake. I bought the Globe at Home WIFI and after 2 frustrating days of trying to set it up I ended up throwing it in the trash. I can only say that if Globe had deliberately tried to design an extremely complicated setup process beset with system bugs they could not have done a better job. PS I am a retired computer technician.

Findlay we had Globe at home for 3 years but the last 8/10 months of that time they dropped the ball with outages for a day and no excuses let alone an apology, been with smart PLDT for a couple of years and while the occasional drop out is short lived and usually fixed automatically or with a router reset, has worked fine.

Cheers, Steve.

I guess where you live would make a difference, I live near Languindingan airport which is quite far from the  city.

Yes, as an ex computer tech, you have a logical brain but everything in the PI defies logic, haha. Sorry you had such a bad experience. I can empathize, many times over.

Coincidentally Findlay I was in CDO last November and flew in via the above airport. Upon my departure to Cebu City the airport had an IT systems outage so all the passengers were milling around waiting to check in. One would have thought that airports would be served by a sound IT network (with backup) and by extension surrounding environs reliably connected. Moreover there was not (as is usual in provincial Philippine airports) a decent coffee outlet available to pass the time with.

That said the airport is located on a delightful scenic headland overlooking the serene Macajalar Bay. No hurry, just take in the views sans le café 2615.svg

I suppose your proximity to a cell tower too, we are less than 2 klicks from our local one that seems to cover both Smart and Globe and full signal on the phones and modem.

Before we went stand alone if the power went out so did our modem but not the phones, UPS backup in the tower I presume but now on our own power I see that if there is scheduled maintenance by the local power company, usually a Sunday and all day then after about 4/5 hours we lose the internet but not the phones so I gather their UPS dies but we can still use data on the phones and a hot spot to the puters.

Seems to work ok and we simply got sick of Globe going off line so went to Smart same as our phones.

Good luck.

Cheers, Steve.
