I had to look up what, kitchen sink drama was.
Angry young men in the 50s and 60s.
They should update that to the present day!
I am not so sure I miss Netflix or HBO or any pay tv.
Here and there it sounds like they show some interesting things but overall, na.
I have been watching way too much 48 hours murders mystery.
Last night I saw 2 different episodes of adult children offing their super wealthy parents for money.
No worried for us... Still disturbing to think you spent all your time, energy and love on someone only to have them kill you off for what was going to be their anyways. They just could not wait their turn.
Saw a meme the other day. It deplicted a women not being able to sleep after watching a show where a dog dies. She could however fall asleep fast after watching a show where a serial killer did in 27 people!
Hate to admit it but I probably fit in that meme!

Yes, it's all Northern England social drama set in a wasteland of industrial grime and decay.
I'm of an age when these black and white gritty films of the 60s and 70s were in the cinema and on the TV.
The actress I remember in this kind of film was Rita Tushingham. Usually playing some semi-teenage girl with some issue like teenage pregnancy or getting drunk on Friday nights. Same kind of thing in many other films the world over. And a timeless subject.
When I was at school, we had to study a book called Kes about a boy who has a kestrel. Needless to say, it was a grimy and miserable in outlook. The end of the film version was a real shock. I won't go into spoilers but it affected me. Hence I really remembered these kinds of film and I seek them out now and again.
1939, Hitler's army was closing borders, and 85 American missionaries were in Germany serving their church. The escape of these missionaries from Nazi Germany is one of the most dramatic events to occur in modern LDS history.Trailer-@SimCityAT
LDS? Mormons? I wonder if this is some kind of advertising for their church.
-@fluffy2560
No advertisement, just a a drama and history film. Was pretty much like any other history film with the evacuation of Jews.
An emotionally distant writer returns to his hometown of Cleveland for his beloved mother’s funeral, after having spent years successfully avoiding interactions with his high-strung sister, bumbling but well-meaning father, and untrustworthy step-father. While in town, he forges a new relationship with a charming, energetic stranger who pushes him to realize that he can’t avoid conflict forever — with his family or within himself.Trailer-@SimCityAT
That sounds like depressing social drama.
I was discussing "kitchen sink drama" in cinema the other day.
I was surprised no-one had heard of the genre. But then again, they were all about 30 years old.
-@fluffy2560
It wasn't that depressing, a bit more of a "black comedy" but was an independent film.
I can't be doing with adverts on YouTube, so I do now subscribe to the Premium package, it's great for films not to have adverts, but it's more for the music films and sets on it. I don't really both with Spotify anymore also I have that on all my devices.
I do like to watch a full concert on my TV without breaks. So I pay for that and Disney+. The Ex(ish) pays for Sky that includes Netflix.
I also do have my IPTV, but that's really for American TV, as I don't care much for UK television anymore.
Gemini Man
Retiring assassin Henry Brogan is pursued by a mysterious killer who can predict his every move. When he discovers that a younger clone of himself is hunting him, Henry needs to find out why he is being targeted and who the creator is.

I wonder if he got paid twice for that movie?
Could be worth a look. Got a pretty interesting cast. I've seen the first 3 episodes. I think it's pretty good and very well made but the plot is complicated. I will be watching the remaining episodes.

I was never a fan of hers so it doesn't resonate much.
Sure she can sing but like so many people with talent, and eventually fame, she was very self-destructive.
From reports I've read, her husband wasn't a great deal of help either.

Could be entertaining to watch but I also was never a fan of hers.
27, how much suffering and heartbreak can a person have at that young age?
Yes, some people have to rough early but just wait till you are past 65, that is when the real party starts!
It seems to me allot of peoples suffering is caused by bad choices and their pride.

I think Amy W was surrounded by the wrong people and she caved in. It was the drugs in the end.
You mean I have to wait another year until I'm 65 before the party really gets going?
Yes, after age 65, it is a different trip every 5 years instead of the old every 10 years or so.
Drugs, same old story.
My brother wrote me today from his rehab room.
One guy has been there for 3 years!!!
Bro said the food tastes like prison food. Yes, he did 6 months years ago in the hole for beating the crap out of his friend and throwing him threw a plate glass window.
His Jezsabel wife caused the riff. That was number 2 wife.
My bro told me he had no idea where he was, could not even talk when he got out of his 6 weeks in a coma and later found out his ex wife number 1 had given him meth in his IV line.
He refuses to believe his son knew anything but yes, drugs will turn even sons into monsters.
He had a rough night, said the place ran out of his pain meds for 24 hours?? Hard to believe that, maybe one of the nurses was helping themselves to his meds? I do not trust these people any longer, watch too much crime tv shows!
Drugs, those nurses can always supplement their incomes by selling drugs for patients.
I know when our step dad died from cancer my sister had a fit when she found out mom had got rid of his left over methadone. She was quoting the st. value of the stuff!!! Sort of scary to know the prices, why did she know??
No problem in Hungary, they barely give you an aspirin without acting like it is a class one med!
Oh, yes, my bro said a rookie female cop took the complaint about him getting a shot of meth in the ICU. She mishandled the whole thing. His doctor did shut down the entire ward to visitors though.
I told him I knew about this, first he heard of it! Have to protect him, hard to not tell him about cra ,cra sister but for now he can let me know if knows anything. My lips are sealed to protect him from more stress.
Eldest sister is OK with helping her for now? OK, I tried do not cry to me later!

Started:
Mayor of Kingstown - Season 3 - Jeremy Renner
Queued:
A Gentleman in Moscow - Ewan McGregor
Finished:
Mayor of Kingstown - Season 3 - blockbluster finale with shoot outs rivalling the movie Heat. It could run for 7 seasons according to the creator.
Started:
The Old Man - Season 2 - with Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow - could be better. Crusty Special Ops and FBI retirees look for kidnapped daughter in an Afghanistan run by the Taliban.
Slow Horses: Spook Street - Season 4 - with Gary Oldman - top gritty British spy show with Oldman as chief slimeball.
Almost finished:
Presumed Innocent - Jake Gyellenhaal is wrongly accused (probably).
Started
Plan B - Season 2 - a Canadian time travel series, set in Montreal. First season was good but hard to find.

I think Slow Horses is Apple TV. Might be on other outlets.
We have Netflix and I'm struggling to find it relevant.
We've changed our Internet provider and just acquired Telekom provided TV with 200+ channels and while there's huge amount of rubbish on it, it does have an interesting feature of dual sound selectable on our Samsung TV. So we can watch many shows with English original sound. It would be really useful if there was something worth watching!
Now watching:
A Gentleman in Moscow - Ewan McGregor and his real life wife Mary Elizabeth Winstead (she's great but she has a wonky British accent in this show). But both very fine actors. On episode 2 and quite intriguing and good cast. Produced by Showtime.
Ongoing:
Lord of the Rings/Power of the Rings - sumptuous production values and rumoured to be a minimum of 5 seasons contracted with Tolkein's estate/heirs and costing over $1 billion for the run. Amazon MGM production and sponsored by heavy personal interest by Bezos.
I watched an excellent movie last night on U tube.
Just found it by pure luck.
Louis Van Beethoven made in 2020.
All in German but with subtitles.
Very well made film and very entertaining.
I usually can not watch German films because the sounds hurts my ears but this was such a good movie it did not bother me at all.
Show airing Sunday 2nd Sept 2024 (in USA):
From - Season 3 - with Harold Perrineau (a great actor) as the Sheriff trying to keep his head together in a mysterious town trapped in a time warp and invaded by night swarms of zombies cum vampires. If you liked Lost you'll surely like this show. Anything with zombies has to be good.
All Creatures Great and Small
Yay, its back on TV

Mrs Fluffy has read all the books (in English) and absolutely loves this kind of show. She's going to be keen on this one!
She also enjoyed the Gerald Durrell books.
@fluffy2560It's on My 5... Left me know if you want a copy -@SimCityAT
It's OK thanks, it's very easy to find.
Previous version is also available - had 7 seasons. I remember watching it.
This latest version from 2020 has 5 seasons currently. Mrs Fluffy and I will watch it together.
Something is being filmed near Paty in the same area The Last Kingdom was being filmed.
The location is here.
They've built a wooden thatched house there and construction looks like it's continuing. Security is on site.
If someone knows what it is, then please post here.
I've queued up this movie to watch. They should have given it an alternate name outside the USA as no-one knows what a Crawdad actually is. It's a crayfish.
Watched this one:
It's got a good cast but it's hard to watch and a little bit slow and violent in places. It's a low budget movie. It's about domestic abuse in the North of England. Needs subtitles for those not familiar with a hard Scottish and Irish accents of some characters. A more modern kitchen sink drama set in some grimy Yorkshire town, possibly Leeds or Sheffield.
Summary: A Christian do-gooder (Olivia Colman) tries to save a tortured, angry boozy widower (Peter Mullan), only to find that he ends up saving her from her abuser (Eddie Marsan) and eventually both find a form of redemption within their relationship.
Notable for being written and directed by Paddy Considine who appeared in House of the Dragon.
Zombie apocalypse movie obviously made on a bit of a budget. Surprisingly Glenn Close is in it. It's a kind of hybrid of 28 Days Later, Lord of the Flies and I am Legend.
Interesting fact is that some of the abandoned city shots were filmed from a drone over Pripyat, the Ukrainian town abandoned when the Chernobyl disaster took place. It's hard to tell because there's a lot of CG (Computer Graphics) in it.
They must have got some sponsorship as brand names like Lidl figure prominently.
It was OK but I won't get back those 2h and I'm 50-50 on that. I didn't even miss any of it by falling asleep.
I enjoyed watching this movie split over 2 days and it was good. The main characters are sympathetic, work well together in their shared scenes and do a pretty good job overall. They were well matched in casting. It's essentially a romantic black comedy with a body count (ignore that characters died for our entertainment). Worth watching if you have Netflix.
Watched this on Netflix. Was OK. Two good lead actors in Matt Damon and Pedro Pascal, with William Dafoe supporting the effort.
I think it's really a propaganda piece and spectacle. If not CGI for the human element, it must have had a caste of thousands. I believe they had up to 800 interpreters working on this movie.
Ideal for a slow and rainy afternoon.
