Hello Debra,

Welcome !

An english speaking lawyer  in Greece would be better should you want to be accompanied by a professional.

Let's see what other feedback you receive from members.

Hi Debra

I'm with Bhavna on this, an English speaking lawyer in Greece would be better. Maybe you could contact the Greek Embassy to see if they have a list of English speaking lawyers?

Finding a competent and honest lawyer in Greece is no easy task!

I can recommend an excellent one, who does speak English - it took me a long time, and several expensive missteps, to discover him.  I'm not sure if it's permitted to give out details on the open forum, so please feel free to PM me if you'd like details.

Hi I would like the name of the lawyer you mentioned in the blog. please. I'm at the very beginning of my move to Chania and not a clue. I read the messages on here and know it's not going to be easy. I'm in the Uk by the way so it'll be even more difficult.

Thanks Bev.

I would join the Facebook group ' British in Greece' which has a wealth of info on the subject. It's not difficult and you don't particularly need a lawyer unless your circumstances are challenging. Basically you apply first for your D visa in the UK.  If you are successful you then apply for your residents permit once you arrive in Greece. This is done online. Here's the link for the visa centre which is your starting point:https://uk-gr.gvcworld.eu/en

Do message me if I can help further  - we moved out on a FIP visa 2 years ago.

Good Luck!

Yassou,

Perhaps you can start to work with a support structure in the UK, because it will be easier for you to find an association in this direction (perhaps even for free).

Then later find a lawyer who speaks English in Greece (which is almost all) to complete (as part of the work will be done it will cost you less).

Plus he will be more aware of the current rumors of the new decraits who knows, right?

Finding a lawyer isn't hard - what is hard is finding a good one who is professional and honest. Drop me a PM if you'd like my guy's details - it took me over 30 years to find him! 1f601.svg

@sandiedawn

Hi Sandiedawn. Thanks for the info, sounds pretty easy.

Can I ask you about health insurance. I've been getting quotes in the region of  £7 - 800 per month. A retired couple in good health. Is this the going rate.

Thanks for any info or links.
