Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Honduras ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed? What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Honduras?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Hi...
When I was the first time in Honduras (it was 6 years ago) I was always travelling withing Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula by bus or by taxi. However the honduran people do not recommend to take the bus within Tegucigalpa or San Pedro Sula.
There are 3 types of taxi in Tegucigalpa. (1) "Directo" (2) "Colectivo" (to share the taxi with other people) or (3) "RADIO TAXI" (call the taxi by phone and they will pick you up at the time and place you wish. Definitely the 3rd option is the safest one.

For long distance trips it is very convenient to take the bus. There are various bus companies which do offer very cheap transport. And it is safe. For exampel "San Miguel", "Christina", "Hedman Alas", etc. Or you can take the airplane from Tegucigalpa to San Pedro Sula, La Ceiba or Roatan.

However, we decided to buy a car last year. And it was an exelent decision we took. I recommend anyone to buy a car in Honduras as it is the safest way within Tegucigalpa.
