American Kitchen Appliances in Dominican Republic

Great question, I know I am the first to comment so here goes. If you can find them in the "box" stores then you have a fighting chance to get it installed and serviced or at least replaced when it dies. Looking forward to hearing what others say. Also if you are renting to folks that are not familiar with a disposal, that could be a whole world of hurt....

You first need to ask yourself, "where is my wastewater going?".  While yes, garbage disposals are convenient, they tend to cause more troubles than they solve.  Especially here.  Is your waste going into a septic tank that you have to deal with?  Do you really want all that extra organic matter overloading the tank?  Are the pipes able to handle the extra load?  Is your electric stable enough to handle this as well? If it's a community tank for a complex, same questions but add angry neighbours when they find out someone has been putting garbage down the drain.  You may be on the hook for ALL the repairs.

Disposals don't make sense in North America, they would be a nightmare here.  The "modern sewage system" sounds more like a marketing tool rather than a reality.

UB is spot on with his assessment. I would be very curious to know what a ”modern sewage system”  consists of myself. 🤣

When the builder thinks a garbage disposal is a trash can, you better wake up! This is a whole different world.   Beautiful, yes.   Uncle Buck has been here a long time and is property manager, his suggestion should be well taken.

Might be best not to install one given this can happen even when you are not renting, what if you hire a maid to clean the place.  What a nightmare, good you made a very good point with this comment.   

Solid waste is a real issue here. Unless you have a completely climate controlled domicile you will get all sorts of insects in your house. This includes house flies, fruit flies, and maggots appear in your trash literally overnight due to the high humidity and heat.

I think a garbage disposal would be a real problem as Uncle Buck indicates. We compost everything we can out of our kitchen, running it out to our compost drum once or twice a day to get that stuff out of our house. Meat scraps are an issue. We have resorted to sealing this in plastic wraps and disposing in an outside waste can. Good times....

Most homes here are built with grease traps. Ours is sealed into the floor of our garage. My guess is that would fill up much more quickly if you used a garbage disposal. We actually have mesh drain covers in our sink to make sure we aren't sending anything other than liquid down the drain.

I actually have one installed in my house , plumber had never seen one. I shipped from USA gave guidance on installation. Had to have electrician install outlet and switch for operation of disposal.  I don't really put much waste in system, mostly installed to make wife happy.
