Hi
We're from Malta and looking to relocate to the Bearn area. We're still evaluating the pros and cons, and at the moment looking at properties. My husband is a Belgian chef and we have a 10-year-old son. I currently work as a Senior Manager in a Trade Promotion Agency but have years of experience in business, EU funded projects, and research. Our main concern is finding jobs or starting up a business (financial stability), our son's education, and to a lesser extent, social/cultural life. My husband speaks French fluently but I'm a bit rusty We're looking for a slower pace of life. Keeping our fingers crossed that we manage to put all our ducks in a row and make the move!

I think with the background you mentioned in the post, you would have a fair chance here in France. Bon courage!
Hello All,
Just a quick hello to introduce myself… I live in the South of France ( and have lived in Germany). France has been home for over 20 years where I’ve gotten both of my kids through the French education system 😅. Any help I can offer for those considering the expat life, don’t hesitate to let me know. It’s never easy and preparation and support helps tremendously!
Best to you all!

Hello
I moved with my young family to the Médoc in January 2003 having known the Bordeaux area since for ever as my Mum had a friend we visited regularly and she then bought a holiday home
I worked initially in IT and since 2006 in property management
Several moves have seen me now living in greater Bordeaux but outside the ring road
Now have a French partner after my wife passed away in 2013
Love living in France and seeing my country with an outsider's view
Very glad to have found this community

My name is Mike and as my username reflects, I am a French professor. I have been a tenured French professor for 27 years at the community college level in California.
As I look towards an early retirement next year, and having recently had my divorce finalized, I am excited to finally do what I have wanted for much of my life: to live in France.
I do have a child who will be ready to enter "2eme" in fall 2025. He's working on his French but will probably need to attend an English-speaking international school.
I have spent most of my life in northern California, so I'm looking at the Normandy/Brittany areas to live in, as the weather will be similar to what I enjoy, even a bit cooler, perhaps :-)
Having sold my home here in northern California, I do ultimately plan to purchase a home in France.
I have good friends in France who are ready to help me in any way I need, but I thought joining this community would also be a good idea.
I look forward to interacting with some of you.

My name is Andrea Rothman. I'm 65, retired, u.s. citizen, i've been in France for 30 years and want to return to the U.S. I was looking for information from anyone going in that same direction: France back to othe U.S.--on how to close up shop in France. I heard it's complicated and involves paying taxes. Also looking for advice on shipping companies to send rugs, clohes, etc. back to the U.S. thank you

@titomre
Thank you for your reply Niza !
I would suggest that you open a new thread on the France forum so that members can share their experience with you.
You can also create a "looking for" advert in the housing in France section to receive offers and read the articles under the Accommodation in France section. Each of them contain useful links to real estate websites.

Hello,
my name is Jakob. I'm planing of visiting france for 6-12 months. I don't have any specific place where I want to move. My goal is rather to find a place to work as a helping hand in a kitchen or something similarly. I am no officialy trained chef, but I am very passionate in cooking on my own and have a lot of experience in it.
So if someone has similiar experience, I would love to hear about it.
Hi, My name is Brian, I'm 59 years old and live in Phoenix, AZ.
I'm retired military and have a modest pension that's allowed me to retire in the Phoenix Metro area. My dream is to move to France for a year or so to explore, and perhaps stay a while.
I first visited France while in the Army many years ago and fell in love with it. I did some climbing in the Pyrenees near Cauterets and trained with French paratroopers in Pau. I've been a couple of times since and really loved it.
I started learning French a couple of years ago. While the going is slow, I'm having fun doing it.
Cheers and God Bless,
Brian

Hi, I'm Mats, from Sweden. Not sure if this is the right place. I've been a house owner in L'Occitanie since 2007. Then I were a frequent member of a forum for expats in the region which then were called Languedoc.
But it moved to Facebook and just faded away for me ho never been a great fan of FB.
Our house have not had a lot of attentione recent years, all due to life which interferred with us for many years.
But since last year I'm slowly reaching for a much closer relationship with our house and the small hamlet it resides in.
Anyhow, we, me and my wife, will soon hit the road for a visit in Vieussan, our small and beautiful village. We will arrive on Bastille day and then it's work, work, work in the house. New window in, a small wall which protects us from falling down the stairs must be replaced. It will be intense days but also a lot of wine and good French food; duck, fish and shellfish, meat of all kind and a mean paella I cook on the barbie on our wonderful terrace.
Well, anyhow, I'm glad to be here but it's possible that I move over to a l'Occitanie-forum, if there is one.
Hello,
I can't create an account on WeChat. I do all the manipulations correctly but at the end I am asked to validate a QR code. The only person who also has WeChat just created their account less than 6 months ago and therefore cannot confirm my registration. I cannot validate my registration only with a mobile number. This option is not offered to me with the iPhone 15 PRO. The other phone that was able to create its account is an Android. How to solve my problem?

Hello, I'm Brazilian finishing graduation studies and wanting to move to France. I want to be able to do master there, maybe in Nantes. But right now my plan is to pass this vacations (Decembre, January and February) in Nantes to see if that's the city I really want to do master and consequently live.
I have to find a job there to live this three months, but I don't have European Citizenship, just Brazilian. Want to know if it's easy to find job under these circumstances.
Best regards

@Julien My name is Edward and my wife and I relocated from San Francisco to Nimes. We have lived here a year but will relocate to a somewhat cooler part of the country. Sadly neither of us speak French but after a year and a half of DuoLingo French lessons have some elementary understanding. Nor an easy country to navigate the bureaucracy.

Hey there, I’m Ali. I’m a photographer living in HongKong.
I am a fan of basketball and fitness. I’m also interested in food and DIY.
My name is Haifaa. I moved to France three years ago. Before that, I worked for almost 20 years at Emirates Airline in Dubai but lost my job during the COVID pandemic. I’ve been working hard to improve my French, I've taken some courses, but the best way to learn a language is to speak with native people and use it in daily life. I enjoy horse riding—France is one of the most beautiful countries to ride in! So, I’m continuing to search for a job, and here I am!
France is such a beautiful country, and like anything new in life, it comes with challenges, but we adapt. I wish you all the best of luck, and if you don’t need luck, then just enjoy the journey!
