Are foreign women allowed to drive in KSA?

IŽve been told the prohibition on driving applies only to Saudi and Muslim women, but IŽm not so sure about it. Can anybody clarify this to me, please?

IŽve also heard a woman is not allowed to go out by herself...does it mean that I will have to take my husband with me everywhere as a kind of escort or what?

Another question: what is the average salary for an expat school teacher in KSA?

Thank you!

women (all) are not allowed to drive.

noooooooooooooooooooooo
for all women, whatever nationality or religion
you can use taxi or private driver
of course it is to some extent a problem specially that taxi fees is not so cheap and private driver monthly salary from 1.500 SR to 2.000 SR

Thank you for answering, gentlemen.

Clio, you can actually go out by yourself but there's nothing to do except shop. If you're in public with men, your husband has to be present, the only exception to this rule is the drivers but just ensure you sit in the backseat.

Some compounds are quite big so you may be able to drive in there (depends if any Saudi officials live in the compound- very unlikely but possible)

of course if you get housing in a compound then you can drive around in the compound....

Thank you Dee.signer and Borntobemild :)

When my husband and I were in Jeddah and lived in a Western compound, women( wives whose husband were at work during daytime) were allowed to drive inside the compound to pick up some groceries and do errands in the store/shops.But definitely, women driving outside is a big NO, NO in Saudi Arabia.

Your compound was so big, you needed to drive around in it?  Wow!  In ours, one could only spin around in tight circles in their car. That's how small it is...haha.  Also in regards to the salary, it varies drastically. Schools/colleges/Uni's, pay as little as $2100.00 usd or as much as $4000.oo usd or higher. It also depends on whether you're an entry-level instructor or a coordinator/director or other kind of management. I notice the pay is going down, not up, in KSA, so I think the foreign English teacher market here is getting glutted to the point where supply is high, hence salary is decreasing. New hires where I work make less than I do, and I make less than people who were hired before me.  You better jump before wages are like Southeast Asian salaries (1 or 2 thousand per month).
