Hi,

can you recommend a computer shop which i can contact per email or phone and where i can purchase a wide choice of hard drives ?

I'm interested in SATA I/II/III and business robust modells. I have been at Jacey, they only have samsung home HDDs SATA I/II. Am looking around if you can get any better modells. Top would be SATA III (6Gb/s) or SATA I/ SATA II (3Gb/s) Business modells;
Ideal for: Mission-critical, highly reliable business environments, 24/7
MTBF: 1.2 million hours
Warranty: Typically 5 years.

If you have an idea, let me know. I also sent an email to LCI.

c u,
Dietmar

hi pal,
i think these models comes only with branded machines in here, entry level servers business. you may try get a hardisk of same from harel mallac, or EIS; pv me if you want some contacts.

ideally these are ibm and dell hardisks, y not a SAN, or NAS, ur choice..

best regards,
Islander.

Dietmar

hi,

yep, i exactly need those HDDs for a NAS for SOHO. But what is a SAN ? :)
IBM Server Machine would be overkill for my current requirements.

I'm checking up right now on a shop in Centre de Flacq called V-Store who seem to have a good active online shop+forum. Let's see what they will respond. I like it when you can email and get feedback. Good point, forgot about Harel Mallac. Maybe they can help - yes if you can DM contacts - most welcome.

Catch up soon,

Dietmar

You could also try Pinnacle Micro in Port Louis. They have these for Dell, Lenovo etc..

islander77

Pinnacle? is it new?

alisa_ram

Not that new. It's near Champ De Mars. Good feedback

Pinnacle Africa (Mauritius)

Harel Mallac can be a bit of a rip off, and the after sales service is :unsure!

islander77

Storage Area Networks: u can store teras in high optical transmits

if you have Rs 250k or greater, of course

cheers
I

Dietmar

Hi Alisa and islander77,

sent tessa an email at pinnacle, let's see if i'll get some feedback. Whereabout at Champ de Mars is it ? I know where Cathedral square is and GFA. Can you give me some hints where i can find that shop ?

SAN: lol Rs.250k, thats overkill for soho ;) but some nice toys :D

alisa_ram

Dietmar,

the Cathedral one Square street leads you to Champ de Mars. Turn right and circle the Champ De Mars. You will see DCDM building and there's a road a little bit farther on your left and as you turn you should see Pinnacle in front on you.

islander77

yo,
these wants are semi professionals, u'll find in in pro stores, pv me & i give u the contacts
cheers bud

After +8 emails and 5 calls, 1 each week, i finally managed to get a quote from pinnacle / Mrs. Tessa. Looking at the date of my last post when i started my enquiry I just wonder how businesses will sell and gain new clients with this intensive requirement of continuous followup - unfortunately a lot of businesses and people work this way in Mauritius, that's why I am used to this. But thousands of others, especially foreigners who can be good buyers ARE NOT! :/

The quoted price of a nice Western Digital 1 TB RE4 SATA 3GB/s 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Enterprise Hard Drive WD1003FBYX is Rs.5635 whereby on the website AMAZON USA it is selling at only around Rs.2900. What a big difference!!! What does justify such a big price difference ? 100% Markup ?
It can't be the shipping, and neither the custom taxes ?

For the price of 2 items in Mauritius its worth 3 including shipping charges, hmm...

Any suggestion for a far better price retailer ?

islander77

Try bringing it on your own, or check retailers such as pascal computers, or u can buzz me for more info ;)

i did bring something from the us: 500gb ext, military standards, u can make a car's wheel run over it, wont harm, or drop it to the ground, nothing happens :)

cheers man, good luck,
I.

Just wanted to point out that it finally worked out with pinnacle, problem with the communication was that there are 2 email addresses which they have: one that works for them, and one that doesn't. With Pascal Computers i gave them a call, placed and order, but then got an email with a quote to order what they have in stock - probably some intern miscommunication, so i gave up on that one.

Good to hear that :)

Jiepay

there's sheridanmobi.com as well.

Ordered all my PC gear from there, they may not have everything in stock but it's worth waiting.

Current config: Core i5-2500k, GSkill DDR3 2x2GB, Asus P67 Pro, Corsair TX650W

Bought PCs for friends from fastclick.mu (Beau Bassin and pte.aux Sables), felt they were ok too

Dietmar

I stick with Jacey in Port-Louis, been their loyal client since 15 years! Also i can just order PCs without any software which allows me to get good machines at just around Rs.10 000 - and then just install linux, open source, stable, low costs.

Jiepay

the initial post was about knowing where to have the latest gear and at good prices, right?

Was just trying to help :)

I assemble my own too ;).. never bought a bundled PC in my life, not even for my friends.

Dietmar

yes, with the option of ordering i just bookmarked your suggested link :)
