Sign work contract before having BSN number

Hi everybody,

I hope my question hasn't already been asked, if so, I'm sorry!

I am French, I have been searching for a job in the Netherlands for a few months. Finally I have received a job offer so I'm happy! The company is asking my BSN number to fill out the documents, but I don't have one yet because I don't have an address here. I will start the job in 1,5 month, which gives me time to find an apartment since I will have an employment contract. However, I'm afraid that if I mention this, the company might be afraid and offer the position to someone else.

My questions are: Is it possible to sign a letter of intent or a contract before having a BSN (since I need the contract to rent an apartment)?

If the company proposes that I temporarily register at their address, won't the wait for an appointment at the gementee for registration be too long? Does this mean that I won't be able to provide a BSN quickly and therefore won't have a contract by then?

I hope I have been clear. Thank you in advance for your answers as this situation is quite stressful, I want to be sure to do things correctly!

Hi,

I think the appointment for the BSN number can happen fairly quickly, depending on what city or village you live in.

You do need an address, so using the company's address temporarily would be perfect. After you find your own apartment, you need to go back to the Gemeente and update the system with your new address.

Look at this link - https://www.netherlandsworldwide.nl/per … n-register

You can always call and ask for help. -

The Netherlands Worldwide contact centre can always be reached by phone: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Good to know: if we call you back our phone number will not be visible

Good luck!

@Becka A. Thank you for your answer! It helps :)

I really hope to be able to register at my company's address, that would be perfect temporarily, I hope they will understand. I'm in Amsterdam so the delay to have an appointment for the BSN is unfortunately quite long but it's the game...

Thanks for all the information!
