It's not too easy to get information on VAT for specific items in Hungary, so I asked not-100 percent-reliable Bing Chat for some examples. The answer:

Ketchup: 27%

Canned Soup: 18%

Fresh Fruit: 5%

They wish to bleed everyone out before going digital with currency.

We are about to change a bathroom sink ourselves.

Every little tiny part like seals is a few dollars here and a few there.

Cost more then the sink does just for tiny little parts.

My frugal husband recently changed seals on the old sink.

He will just reuse them.

I can now understand how a plumber can charge so much for a small job.

Our silly neighobs had a house meeting awhile ago. They voted to give the house manager a raise!! Insane, he is never seen in the building or does anything around here. Has his cleaners dump hypo all over and calls that cleaning.

Long stroy short, they voted to redo the electric wires leading to the flats. It's ging to take a long while because they do not wish to turn off the power all at once.

Might be years. They aren't starting the job until summer is over.

Everyone cost depends on the size of their flat.

Our share came to $715. US.

The idiots in the house went along with 2 ways of paying instead of getting someone to the local counsil to see if the building could get a loan from the gov. and not the bank.

The manager must have some sort of deal goingon with the bank, all in his own interest.

So everyone's chose was to pay up frnt before the work even started or sign up with a bank loan without even knowing the details of the loan.

Who can say what sort of interest rates they will be getting and if the loan is extended or what?

No one thinks it seems.

My husband was himming and haaing abut what to do. We just paid it all up front to be done with it.

Knowing this manager I have no clue why they didn't vote him out instead of give him a raise!

We know how he operates, gets his own people to do the work and gets a cut on the side.
