I am a Canadian looking for a compound (for one, me) or a room mate who already has a nice two bedroom apartment.

It can be very expensive or fairly resonable depending on your standards. I am in a nice hotel and I pay about 9,000 riyals/month. I work with a guy who lives in a dump for about 3,000.

Compounds cost 8-10,000/month but they are worth it.
They are hard to find.
They want one year in advance.
That means paying over 100,000 riyals up front to move in.

Remember that if you bring a family, you have to pay for school. Again, you get what you pay for. You can pay a lot for the internation or American schools.

Everything else is cheap.
Food, Taxis, car rentals are all very reasonable.
