Accommodation in Muscat tends to be modern and of a good standard, with expats usually renting apartments or stand-alone homes or villas. These tend to be within a secure compound, and compounds often offer tennis courts, swimming pools, golf, and shops and restaurants.
Apartments and homes can vary in size and amenities, depending on your needs. Ruwi- Ruwi is mainly a business district, and is one of the older neighbourhoods in Muscat. However, apartments can also be found, as well as many services and medical facilities. Parking can be an issue on weekdays.

Qurm (also spelled Qurum) - Qurm is very pedestrian friendly, with large open parks, such as the Qurm National Park. The beach is also quite close, and a range of modest apartments and luxury villas can be found here. There are also many cafes, restaurants, and shopping options.

Al Hail and Seeb - Housing here is very affordable, but it also far from the city centre. The area offers parks, an International School, and one of the city's biggest shopping malls. New luxury housing is being built here, so the area is up-and-coming.
