Fashion, design, finance, culture, tourism and much more create the reality of living in Milan. This city, with its vast amount of opportunities, is dedicated to the intellectual and professional advancement of each and every one of its individuals.

A boom of industries

Looking for is a job itself. Milan has always been a centre of innovation, with its doors wide open for new ideas. This city offers the best business environment in Italy and attracts visitors from the southern parts of the country as well as international job seekers. Other than the artistic vibes, there is a strong industrial feel that shows the abundance of multinational companies in every field.

The rich history of Milan since the Renaissance shows commercial exchanges, communication, manufacture and strong financial development. These conditions brought entrepreneurial opportunities in fields such as industrial design, informatics, marketing, and science research. This also led to a higher living standard in the city and opened opportunities for art, fashion and design development in every area. Today, Lombardy produces a fifth of Italy's GDP, with Milan on the top, as a city with the largest number of companies and non-governmental organizations in the country.

Banking

Milan makes part of the so-called blue banana, (known as the European megalopolis), which is the region of West Europe containing the highest concentration of population and wealth. The banking system consists of a large number of financial companies and hosts 17 foreign Chambers of Commerce. The city is home to the Italian offices of the leading global rating agencies such as Standard and Poor's, Moody's and Fitch Ratings. The main financial centre in Milan is the area around the Borsa Italiana, located in the city centre and known by Maurizio Cattelan's famous middle-finger monument, an art mocking the Nazi regime. Milan offers many opportunities to learn about banking and finance. From the Bocconi University, one of the best economy and finance universities in Europe, jobs and studies to the significant number of banking institutions, the city is perfectly organised for work in this field.

Fashion

As a city made for the wildest dreams for a fashionista, Milan offers a broad range of opportunities for fashion design studies. The city itself provides opportunities for learning, especially in the time of the fashion week. During this period, designers, models and bloggers roam around the streets of Montenapoleone, Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Brera and Tortona. The opportunities seem endless as some of the best fashion brands are headquartered in Milan: Valentino, Gucci, Versace, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana, Luxottica, Moschino, and many others. The presence of these multinationals is an excellent motivation for haute couture inspired individuals, but a big challenge at the same time, as the competition in this field is high.

Research

Sustainability is an important topic in Milan, and the city has become an excellent point for environmental and energy matters, as it holds some of the leading companies oriented on research and development. It has one of the best universities in Italy oriented on scientific and social research like Università di Politechnico and Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, which offer PhD and postdoctoral studies in physics, biomedical engineering, social studies, etc.

Event opportunities

The enormous number of events in the city offers possibilities for work. Some like the Expo, the Design Week, and the Fashion Weeks open many opportunities for short-term jobs and projects for students. You can also look for part-time jobs such as bike delivery, babysitting, sport-related jobs, or hostess. Many aperitivo bars are also looking for experienced waiters for night working hours.

Milan is, by no doubt, the epicentre of the concept "Made in Italy." It is, however, at the 86 place of the 100 global cities. It is though, number one in Italy thanks to the number of small and medium enterprises, and available place for networking or looking for a job. It goes beyond an industrial city and is, in fact, a land of opportunities.
