Founded in 1984, the Indian Ocean Commission, an intergovernmental organization of the islands of the Southeastern Indian Ocean, includes 5 member states: Comoros, France (Reunion), Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles. Its role is to defend the interests of member islands and their economic, social, geographical and biological specificities.
