It all depends on the location.  To buy a a nice townhouse in a nice area,  you are looking for at least $450k. If you are looking for a single family house, you are looking for $600k+.
I am talking about good houses (not high end).
If you are hunting a house in Northern Virginia,  I have a friend who can help. He is a licensed agent.

It all depends on location, location, location.  You might want check www.zillow.com and find lots of values for the area you are looking at.
