Spanish Lesson Gibraltar - Wanted

Hi there

Please could you let us know on the forum how your transition has been since living in Gibraltar.

How are you finding it?  Are you livingin Gibraltar?  Do you know what the buses are like?  Did your employer help you find a property?

I am thinking of moving to Gibraltar, but trying to find out where the best place to live.  I guest its gonna be La Linea, unless I can find good bus routes froms surrounding areas to get to the Frontier - hard work at the moment!

Hi there

The transition has been quite easy really, as I am used of travelling and integrating with different cultures etc. It has been a big change from London however, as it is much quiter, with a lot less things to do in the evening.

I am living in gibraltar, found a nice apartment here myself, as I wouldnt want anyone to pick a place for me without me seeing it first, but its pricey here for accommodation, but you can pick up a bargain every now and again. A letting agent (Helen) helped me find a place - 0034606111930. She has contacts at all the letting agents here and also does spanish property too.

Point to note re property - you can often get better value if you dont need to use the address for buying a car etc.A letting agent will tell you more.

Not sure about the buses really, maybe not reliable for you to get to work etc..but not sure.
You will also have the walk from La Linea station into Gibraltar (Approx 15/20 mins from casemates square). You can pick up a mophead fairly cheap in spain so that maybe an option instead of the bus. La Linea doesnt have the best reputation in the world either.

What Estate Agent does Helen work for, would like to check out the properties.  Does your rent include water, electricity etc? How do you get your post?

Gib is pricy, but if I could have a bargain, when it comes to it, that would be good.  La Linea wouldn't be my first choice, but you can get a lot more for your money, however the reputation isn't great, thats the only downside.  If there are other areas within walking distance, that would be brilliant, right now I'm researching each area.  I have been to Gibraltar before, this year and have walked from the airport to Casemates, it was a bit of a walk, but something you could get used to.

I wonder if there are any nice parts of La Linea?

Might have to think about a moped - little scarey!

I don't mind it being quiet, as I'm from London too.  As long as I can get to the gym, and visit the cinema, and some socialising etc then that's a start.

She works for Find a Property.gi & very helpful I found.

My rent doesnt include water, electricity or internet. I think they are the only bills. Most places have local house tax included ie rubbish collect etc. Post comes to apartment.

No other areas really within walking distance im afraid.

Yep have a cinema, and plenty of pubs and some nice restaurants so im sure you would be fine.

I just pop in the conversation, but maybe one of you knows someone who could be interested in doing a small research for my company Efficience 3?

We are looking for someone there in gibraltar to do a price colection for us. Nothing too difficult, the researcher just need to visit shops and collect prices! We offer 200€ to the person who will do that mission for us.

Thank you for your interest.

The researcher for this survey would have to visit different shops such as MORRISONS, KINGSMILL, NIMBLE, ALLINSON or HOVIS. there are about 165 items (included in 4 categories (food&drink, household goods, services and some asian items).
Each time you need to get two different prices.

In hours, it is difficult to say but we believe that if you are well prepared you can do this survey in 3 days (with no need to work all day long). We use to tell to our researcher that when they go shopping for their personal need they can also complete this survey at the same time...
