It is really depend on how you live and where you live in this city.
There are a lot interesting things could be found beneath the advance part of the city.

Well, you can always find your palace to be beautiful while maybe 10 feet away from it you find ppl spitting. But of course, some places are nicer than others.
Guangzhou is definitely not among those high on the list if you ask me which cities in China deserve the adjective "beautiful". But I'm a captive citizen on weekends so I need to be in the city anyway.
