Hi we are planning a trip and will have a car-- We want to do some white water river rafting and see Mondeverde. how much time should we plan for that area? and how is the way to get from Arenal to Mondeverde. If we take the taxiboat taxi option can we do some tours in a day or do we need to stay teh night in Monteverde?

The taxi-boat-taxi between Arenal and Monteverde takes several hours each way, and it is wearing. So, I would plan at least one night in Monteverde. There's plenty to do there, including night-time tours :-).
If you drive, you would go around the lake, and the last bit would be all dirt/gravel road - it would definitely take longer than the boat option.
Perhaps someone else can chime in on the rafting. You can get some idea of the time to budget by looking at some package tours.

We made the drive to Monteverde coming up from San Ramon. The last 20 or 30 miles are pretty rough and very slow going. While there, we stayed at the Monteverde Inn which was VERY basic but also hosted a guided night walk through the jungle. The next day, we took a lift to the top of a mountain and had a guided walk back down and across lots of suspension bridges. It was one of our favorite stops. We wanted to go to Arenal from there but ran out of time so yes, I'd say spend the night.
