I heard that they want a resident visa. Let me know if you find a better answer because I am also going there and would like to have a bank account locally.

Hello Andrea,
In order to open a bank account in Egypt you require:
1. At least a 6 months visa in your passport.
2. A reason for opening the account. e.g. purchasing a property; you are employed in Egypt.
Opening an account in local currency (EGP) is easier than an account in foreign currency (currently, 3 months opening time + minimum balance).
