I am sure many people have asked this question before, but I guess everyone is different and has different conditions. I have been offered a job (academia) in Odense for about 430,000DKK. My wife would also have a job so I am counting with at least 430,000DKK each. We have 2 (expensive) dogs and a baby on his/her way. How are those salaries compared to average? Will we be able to afford a new car and a house when we get to Odense?

If you have been offered a job at SDU, the university follows a certain pay scale, and the state isn't a salary leader.

However, if your wife is also offered a job (or can find a job), 860,000 kroner will be an absolutely good income. 430,000 kroner, however, will be a rather modest income if a family shall live on it.

Tax, if you settle in Odense muncipality, and your wife doesn't have a job, will mount to 137.883,38 kroner. If we take that your wife earns the same as you, (860,000 kroner totally), each of you will have to pay 155.101,18 kroner in tax (= 310,000 kroner totally).

House prices in Odense (or Funen) are lower that in the Copenhagen area.
