Driving to Malta from the UK!

Hi
We have recently bought a place in Gozo and are planning to drive over from the UK in Dec 18.

We have been looking at the route and trying to find the easiest / quickest way to get there.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

We will also be bringing our Labrador dog with us, so he needs to be taken into account!

Any suggestions for a vet in Italy / Sicily would also be much appreciated.

Have a great day! Lara

This topic has been covered many times before, search through the forum first and you will find the answers. Transporting pets has also been covered.

Having done the drive from North Yorkshire to Southern Italy 5 years ago; from our plan, we went this way:

Day 1 - North Yorkshire to Dover - 300 miles, overnighted there, stocked up on stuff for the cool-box.
Day 2 - Chunnel to Calais, then Lyon - 480 miles, overnighted there
Day 3 - Lyon to Florence - 460 miles, overnighted there
Day 4 - Florence to Catania - 660 miles - that was our destination

It's about another 100 miles down to the ferry to Malta; my wife and I shared the driving and our intention was to get there having not killed ourselves in the process; we could probably have cut a day off that, but our intention was to enjoy the scenery on the way down and stop off to re-visit some places from our youth.  We used the motorways all the way through France; yes it cost a bit more, but the alternative can be a nightmare.

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the Forum, as stated this subject has been covered many times, one thing to bear in mind that coming over in Winter if the weather is bad you may not be able to get from Sicily to Malta as the sailing can be cancelled, so best to be prepared.   Good luck and hope you have a good trip.
