Tax question for investor visa

Hello all,

My first post here but I've been a frequent browser of the forums for a few years now.

I've also posted this in the Visa section.

My question is, if someone was to apply for a permanent visa via the investment route eg. Real estate investment method - would they be liable for tax on their worldwide income, or only on the income from the Brazilian investment?

It really depends on the country you're from.  If you are US citizen, yes, you would have to pay on worldwide income.  But we have a tax equalization agreement with Brazil. Which basically means all taxes paid brazil would be credited towards your pay due in the US.  If your tax liability is greater in brazil, you'd owe nothing in the us, but if it was less in brazil, you'd owe the difference.

Hi,

Does this also apply for UK citizens or are the rules different?

Thanks in advance

I'm not familiar with UK law.
