How available and expensive is housing?

We are looking at living in a tropical destination for retirement or semi retirement. I have been focussing on Costa Rica until now but am wondering if Seychelles would be a comparible option. It looks tome like the most beautiful place on this planet!

I would like to perhaps rent a place for 3-12 months to explore the country and see if it is a good fit and within budget. Can someone tell me the approximate monthly rent for a decent middle class house or apartment? Also what is the current housing environment like (I.e. availability)?
