Can anyone tell me how can i physically check the water meter readings which i have consumed ?

You would have a meter outside your building. It is usually covered. In apartments, they have a main meter and then sub-meters.
For example, in front of my villa, there is a manhole type square cover which can be lifted to reveal the meter. You can note the readings and compare.
