I may not have explained properly. My friend speaks English better than I speak Indonesian.
She needs to learn to read and write in Indonesian not English.
She was not allowed a proper education growing up and now wants to learn reading and writing.

Really don't know as I'm not in Bali, but there must be plenty of Balinese who are offering to teach foreigners how to speak, read and write Indonesian. These kind of people often work independently and could just as easily teach an Indonesian how to read and write their own language. What you could do is search in the Bali Advertiser and if nothing exists there then place an ad in it.

Alternatively, you could contact either of the two Indonesian Experts in this forum who I believe are English teachers for advice or better still Ubudian who was once the Bali Expert and I believe the first ever Expert in the Indonesian forum and knows pretty much everything about Bali and Indonesia and who you might be able to contact.

Actually quite simple, you can ask the local neighbors.
Many students or high school students can be relied upon to teach reading and writing. They are definitely interested in teaching because of the extra money for their pocket.
Please find people around you. Or you need the expert

Probably best word of mouth as many Indonesian school teachers offer this after business hours to supplement income, I'm sure you'll find a local teacher who would be willing to help, great gesture by the way

Yes. both experts are teachers and should offer you the best solution.

However, I would strongly recommend Gwmeath's suggestion that you ask a local schoolteacher to help. Local teachers in Indonesia always do tutoring to help with language skills in their free time, usually after hours in order to make extra money. This kind of thing is very common in Indonesia.

By the way, Ubudian used to be the Bali Expert on this website some years ago. Not sure if it is worth contacting him for suggestions but he is extremely knowledgeable on all things to do with not only Bali but most of Indonesia.

Either your memory is faulty, your reading comprehension poor, or you're a liar.
The quoted post is half truths and misunderstandings, but not true.
Perhaps you'd be better checking your facts before you post in order to avoid looking silly.

I would advise the person goes to a language center specialising in English and enquires about a private class where they can learn and improve the skills needed.
Or search through one of Bali's many classified papers which would I am sure contain many people offering educational services.

I am not living not have enough experience of Bali and it's markets or current events and whilst this might make some question why I am an deemed an expert, Bali in my own opinion probably needs its own expert due to the amount of queries and questions that relate to living and working there.
There are great people who post on expat.com about Bali providing useful and very detailed and supportive information regarding Bali but are not interested in taking this any further which is more than understandable.

You haven't actually said yet what you teach. If you read my original post it should be obvious. My friend is Indonesian so does not need a language teacher. She needs to learn to read and write in Indonesian. Please advise if you can help. Thanks 😀

Yes, I teach Indonesian. And I speak English, so I guess I can help. I'm sorry if I was not obvious enough. And again, I teach online, if it is okay for your friend.

Honestly, the best way is not really to ask here but just inquire in Bali. Everyone has their own ideas about how you could do this but obviously you aren't really getting the answers that you seek. Furthermore, there are plenty of others here who are experts in their own right although not on this website as they haven;t been here for ten years. And many of us are on the other side of Indonesia from Bali and may not have even visited Bali. Again, my own suggestion is to use a schoolteacher because they assist kids with reading and writing and can just as easily do it for an adult. We have schoolteachers that come to our home in the evenings to help our kids read and write in bahasa. I would guess that that would be good for your friend.

Thanks and you're right there have been no useful answers because my post is being read as a request for a language teacher.
We have not had any success finding a private teacher so have started with basic school books for her to learn as children do.  For now we're teaching her ourselves.

Enjoy your weekend Rose. I was in Ubud over the weekend, it's actually become very commercial downtown and quite crowded, I enjoyed the surrounding areas a lot more than Ubud center.
