Health care in São Paulo

Hello everyone,

One among the various issue that many expatriates usually raise is Health Care. So, I think it would be very interesting and helpful to start a topic about Health.

   > So, can you please list some of the private clinics & public hospitals in Sao Paulo?

   > What about dental care? May be some tips about the costs?

   > Some addresses of Eye care clinic, opticians will also be welcomed!

   > Some addresses of pharmacies around Sao Paulo will also be useful.

Do not hesitate, to add more related items to the list.

Thanks in advance for your participation!

So to kick this one off:

Public healthcare does not compare favourably to Western Europe or North America so most expats (and most middle class Brazilians for that matter) invest in private cover.

Below is a list of some of the better known providers (note they very rarely include any dental cover, you are expected to get this separately)

Amil
Sulamerica (ING)
Bradesco
Unimed
Cassi
Medial

If you are being transferred by your ocmpany or are staying for a short period you may want to look at international companies which can cover you for this region.

Unlike other countries please bear in mind that health cover in Brazil can be bough at national or at state level depending on whether you need coverage in the whole country or not.

Another good fact to note is that the list of hospitals and health services you will be able to access will depend not only on your provider but also on the level of cover you purchase.

Quick note on pharmacies: you are never far from a pharmacy in the central districts and almost all of them have late opening opening hours so there's little need to write a list.
