Hi!
I'm a Canadian citizen who moved to Cairo Feb 2 to be with my Fiancee. 
It has been the biggest headache ever trying to get in touch with the Egyptian Embassy in Canada, and I keep finding conflicting information online. I have my tourist visa and found this link: http://www.moiegypt.gov.eg/English/Departments Sites/Immegration/ForignersServices/EkametAlAganeb/EkamaMo2kata/
It talks about a "Temporary Tourist Residence Visa", which is ideal for me (right now I'm just looking to secure a year here and then will revisit the situation when the time comes.
If anyone knows anything about any of this PLEASE help me out!! I am beyond frustrated and running out of time!! Thanks!

From my knowledge you will need a rental contract to extend your visa. Cairo is a very very busy place to get visa renewal and a big headache for tourist. You can try the embassy or this big building in tahirir square by the museum and next to the nile.
