Free and low-cost leisure activities in Malta

Hello,

We invite you to share some information regarding leisure activities that are free or low-cost in Malta. This information will give future expats (or even current expats) an idea regarding some of leisure activities that they might not be aware of.

Is there a way to find out about free or low-cost fun activities in Malta, such as a specific app, or a newsletter, or magazine, tourism board, etc.? How do you find out where events are organised?

What are the most common free leisure activities in Malta?
Which free activities do you recommend for children, for teenagers, for adults, and for seniors?

Are there certain days where access to paid activities are offered at a lower price or even for free, such as museum entry, or exhibitions, or a theme park, etc.?

How do you maximise your leisure activities in the most cost-effective manner?

Thank you for sharing your experience,

Priscilla

The main leisure activities on Gozo are the beach and the sea, diving is very popular especially with tourists, there are some lovely walks around the island, horse riding and rock climbing seem to be getting popular too. There is not an awful lot for children to do other then the beach whereas Malta has more.
Being retired our leisure time is taken up with enjoying the sunshine and sitting in one of the squares watching the world go by and enjoying a drink.
In the summer there are quite a few events going on in Victoria which are free, we have been to concerts and of course every village has its festa which start in May and finish in September with fireworks every weekend.

I'd recommend San Anton gardens in Attard. Free entry and whilst it isn't huge, it's really nicely laid out. There is also a children's playground and a selection of animals near the café.
Speaking of the café, they have a great selection of pastizzis and other items there, all pretty low cost.
