Did not have such things when I first came to Laos. I personally do not use any phone apps at all. FaceBook seems to be the most popular, especially with the younger generation, along with WhatsApp and WeChat.
For the traveler there are language apps and accommodation apps to be found online.
Any language app would be the better one to have to help any new arrival in getting around.
