Is it real to find an IT job in Danang? (IT support, sysadmin role)

Hello, dear expats! I'm currently living in Vietnam, Danang city with my husband. Originally we are from Kazakhstan, from beautiful mountain city Almaty. We are planning to stay in Vietnam at least one year or more. We already living here for about 7 months. We both working remotely for the IT field as  web-developer (my husband) and IT support/System administrator (me). But I wonder is it real to find remote or office job in Danang in the IT field? I'm looking for a job for myself because for sysadmins it's not always easy to work remotely and very often companies need onsite support. I have more than 10 years of experience.  I'm using such websites as https://www.vietnamworks.com, https://www.careerlink.vn and etc. but as I can see most IT support jobs located in Hanoi and Saigon. Do you have any experience in finding IT jobs in Danang? Or the only way to find job is moving to another city? Please share your advices regarding this.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

Honestly, to find a job in IT sector you'll have to compete with the local talents on multiple grounds (e.g. VN language, low-moderate wage, no need of WP etc. etc.)
That said, there are some IT jobs in Da Nang, may not be in your domain though.
A handful of Japanese IT firms are in Da Nang. They will definitely ask for a certain level of Japanese language proficiency.

As an experienced professional you can find selected opportunities at the middle-top levels. Most jobs are in Software/Web Development.
The best way to search for Jobs is to get in touch  with the IT companies directly (if possible, just walk in and talk to the HR).

Check these sites as well:
- ITViec.com
- www.itjobs.com.vn
- Try to connect with the HRs on LinkedIn and Anphabe.

This company is in Da Nang. I see they're looking for a Sys Admin.

You need at least 3-5 yrs of documented experience (that can be verified/legalized) to be eligible for a WP.

Wish you good luck in your job hunt.
Cheers!

There are IT jobs here In Da Nang, but not an ideal field to get into with a local company. Salaries are much lower than western standards, and the local talent here not only know their stuff, but are given a much lower salary. I was a Microsoft Senior Engineer back in the uk for about 7 years, but when i came here over 3 years ago I couldn't make it in the IT field. I got offered one position at FPT but the offered salary for full time 40 odd hours a week was like $400 a month which was a shock. In the end it pays to become an English teacher if you are able to get into that. For me it turned out the change in career was a good thing, love it :)

If you want to stick with IT though your best bet is to keep digging around the web for western companies and work remotely.
Whichever route you chose to go down wishing you the best of luck :)

Hello,

it is not a problem to find a job, but you must accept the local salary. Without knowing your experience and qualification in detail, I would guess, that you could ask for 1.000 to 1.500 USD. But you should look for a foreign company, where you can "monetarize" your english skills. For example FPT is definitely not the employer, you are looking for.

forget it, youll get a **** salary of 4 or 5 million a month, if you are lucky...

The fact is that Danang is in big need of IT specialists to afford rapid development of the city; however, as mentioned above local employment can meet demands, opportunities for expats specialized in IT are very small.  So you could either find job at foreign companies or open your own business, which means a star-up in today vocab.

Thanks to All!
Found a good IT job in Danang and pretty happy with it.
Still open for some part-time/small/interesting projects on a remote basis.
If you are in need - PM for details and CV.

Congrats Elena.

Would you like to share your experience about how did you get the job ??
You are still looking for more so how can you manage your job and other projects ?

And are there positions available in your company ?

Regards
