Vice-President of Ecuador and Others Convicted in Corruption Case

An Ecuadorian tribunal of three judges today (Wednesday, December 13, 2017)  sentenced the vice-president of the country, Jorge Glas, an uncle of his and two others  to six years imprisonment each in the Odebrecht corruption scandal.

Glas was convicted of "illicit association" for authoring a scheme by which he and others received millions of dollars from Odebrecht, a Brazilian construction company, in exchange for government contracts.  Two other Ecuadorians received lesser prison time.

How much of that 6 yrs do you suppose he will actually serve? And is it under appeal now? Or was that sentencing final?

According to a BBC report, the defendants have the right to appeal.

At the time of sentencing two weeks ago, Jorge Glas was the highest ranking official to be convicted in the international Odebrecht scandal.

While this is a legitimate news story and new facts are welcome here, speculating on the future of controversial political figures is outside the realm of this expat.com forum.
