Raising kids in Ireland

Hello everyone,

How is raising kids in Ireland different from raising kids in your home country?

What are the activities that your kids seem to enjoy the most in Ireland?

Do you feel that the country is "family-friendly"?

Do you recommend Ireland as a good place to raise kids? Why or why not?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Not everything is perfect like in any country I suppose.
Let's look at the pros first:

Very open mind set of people, very easy to integrate
Very friendly towards kids on the streets, shops, cafes
Kids can run around everywhere and no one will complain
Lots of interaction with multi national families
Doctor is free for kids up to 6 years
Child care is free for 3 year old for 3h a day
Playgrounds are great
Absolute fantastic play groups
Schools support individuals and their strengths, kids actually like to go to school

Expensive child care (creche, montessori)
Most schools are run by the church (which is not bad at all but access is sometimes limited to baptised kids or they get first preference to join
Hard to get into the top schools/ colleges
Health system is the same as US
Food quality is not the best
No canteen in schools
Ireland (especial Dublin) in an expensive country
