From West it's not worth the 15-18 hour drive
Better to fly there or damam and rent car from airport...

oh I missed the economic part. But even if money is a factor, there are budget airlines nowadays...Saudi Gulf, Nesma, FlyADeal.
It's not worth the drive from western province...

That's still a lot of money when he wants to visit bahrain via flight in addition to Bahrain visa fee at the airport for each family member.
Lots of people drive from dammam/ Khobar to Mecca/Jeddah. So add more 75kms to it and you are at bahrain in the cheapest way.

I guess to each it's own...for me time is money, I'd rather spend a few extra, so that's why I'm suggesting to fly to Dammam as one of the option, agree that Bahrain visa fee is ridiculous.
