Sorry, guess that would have helped.  We have been looking at Sosua, Cabarette, Las Terrenas.

There are lots of options in this area but it is high season so many will be spoken for.  What is your budget?
I will give you some ideas when I know what you are looking to spend.

Firstly, pls. notice we'e looking at Dec, 2018 to March 2019.  We realize it's high season, but whether we make the DR our home every year for 3 months or six months (or year round), we will always want to get away from the frigid winters of western Canada.  We really haven't decided on a budget as we have no idea what the going rental prices are in that area.  Of course we want the best deal possible as that will help us determine the length of our stay.  Ideally, we are looking for: at least 2 bdrms., outside living area with private pool, BBQ, within walking distance of groceries, restaurants and beach.  Our cat has to come too.   Thanks so much for your interest - it really is appreciated!!
Oh, a minimum of creepy crawlies in the place is also a priority!!

In Sousa if you are looking for Condos look at Infiniti Blu and Hispanola beach
If looking for villas look at Residential HIspanola.
All of this have what you are looking for, plus great security, can walk to town and are a bit upscale. 
I did not realize you were looking for Next year not the current season.  If you look now you should have no problems finding a place at a reasonable price.  Many places book up a year ion advance.

Thanks so much, Bob.  While the villas look beautiful at Residential Hispanola, once converted to Cdn. dollars, it may be too rich for our blood.

We are not fussy high-upkeep people.  We have a cat, we like to BBQ on the deck, and enjoy a beer, hopefully around a private pool so we don't have to worry about who's doing what in the water we swim in.  We are not shoppers, but we enjoy a farmers' market, the neighbourhood bar to meet new friends and occasionally have a meal out, and enjoy a close-by walk on the beach and maybe buy our supper from the guy who caught it.  Our dearest wish is that we can find this in the DR.

Finding a villa, which  you need if you want your own pool, may be difficult.  You might look at Trip Advisor under vacation rentals for Puerto Plata  https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g … ublic.html
as well as under Sosua and Cabarete.
