Traffic in Cape Verde

Hello everyone,

Which city or area do you live in in Cape Verde, and how do you find the traffic?

How long does it take to commute to work or run errands?

Is there a rush hour in your city? What times of the day would you recommend people to avoid driving if they can?

Are there any ways to avoid spending too much time in traffic in Cape Verde?

What is parking availability and cost like?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

You'll be happy to learn that there is no traffic in Cape Verde. None. Five years ago there were just two traffic lights in all of Cape Verde. Today, there are three traffic lights. If you wait more than 5 minutes to get through any of them, you would have been very unlucky.

Within the city of Praia, the country's largest and busiest, it should take no more than 15-20 minutes to travel between the furthest points of the city, using public transportation which is the slowest means of transport (because of all the stops that the bus makes). Add extra time, to walk to the nearest bus stop and to wait for the bus. If you're traveling by car or taxi, the travel time will be even less.

If you are driving, there is not much parking available on Plateau, the center of the city of Praia. The parking on Plateau is metered and costs 1 escudo per minute. Outside of Plateau and throughout Cape Verde, parking is plentiful and free.
